DISCOVERYCENTER’S “KIDS KRAFT CLUB” OFFERS OLIVE OIL FACTORY

Preparing for Chanukah children will discover the art of olive oil-making

Attendees of the next Kids Kraft Club, a pre-holiday craft club for children, are preparing for a one-of-a-kind Chanukah program featuring The Olive Oil Factory, by Chabad Living Legacy. At this hands-on workshop, centered on a genuine olive oil hand press, participants will experience how real olive oil is made.

Bringing ancient traditions to life, children will squeeze, press, pound and pulverize authentic olives into fresh olive oil, discovering how the Maccabees of antiquity processed and refined oil for the Menorah [candelabra] in the Chanukah story. When the process is completed, participants will witness the Menorah lit from the oil produced.

This popular pre-Holiday craft club, offered before each Jewish holiday, teaches children the beauty of the holiday, in a fun-filled, hands-on, nurturing environment. Children and adults will experientially explore the significance and history of Chanukah by enjoying a story, eating potato Latkes [pancakes], learning to play the Dreidel, receiving chocolate Chanukah Gelt [coins], creating an edible Menorah and discovering the entire process of creating oil for use in the Chanukiah [Chanukah Menorah].

The Kids Kraft Club program and Olive Oil Factorywill be open to the entire community on Monday, December 11th, 1:30 – 3:00 PM, at The Jewish Discovery Center’s new facility, 7587 Central Parke Blvd., (corner of Cedar Village Dr off Mason-Montgomery Rd., across from Cedar Village), in Mason. The fee is $10. Click here to RSVP.

This unique educational program, designed to educate children as well as adults in the ancient art of oil making for the Chanukiah is being introduced to the Mason/West Chester/Deerfield community by The Jewish Discovery Center as the Jewish community prepares for Chanukah, beginning this year before sundown on December 15th.

The Jewish Discovery Center is offering a plethora of Chanukah fun programs and celebrations for the entire family. Its successful ‘Scholastic & Jewish Book / Chanukah Fair’ kicked off the holiday season for the Jewish community in the Northern region, providing a convenient location for one’s Chanukah needs. Additional holiday programming includes a Chanukah Family Game Night N’ Latkes, by the POPS (Parents of Preschoolers) Club on December 20.

"Chanukah is a time for celebrating the freedom to openly celebrate our values; these programs proclaim that message to the world", said Rabbi Yosef Kalmanson. "We appreciate the community’s eagerness to bring a comprehensive Holiday spirit to the area. There is no better way to celebrate our new Community Center than with Chanukah programs that symbolize Unity, Light and Joy."

The entire community is invited for these events.
