A delegation from Chabad-Lubavitch of Nashville represented the Jewish community during a visit to the Tennessee State Capitol this month, presenting large silver menorahs to Gov. Bill Haslam and House Speaker Beth Harwell.
Rabbi Yitzchok Tiechtel was joined by his son Levi, Chabad of Nashville president Tommy Bernard and Judge Scott Rosenberg for the visit, at which the rabbi thanked the governor for his support of the Jewish community and updated him on the new Chabad Center being built in Nashville. He noted that Chabad Houses exist in each of the state’s four major cities and spoke of more growth ahead for Chabad of Tennessee under the leadership of Rabbi Levi Klein.
The meeting came alongside Tiechtel’s visit to the state House of Representatives, where he delivered the invocation for that day’s legislative session. In his prayer, he spoke about the seven Noahide Laws incumbent upon all mankind and the divine precept to “govern by just laws.”
“Almighty G‑d,” said Tiechtel, “grant us that those assembled here who enact laws will always be conscious of Your presence. In laboring for the enactment of just laws, they are doing Your will.”
