Dear Parents,

We had a fantastic week and our students have adjusted wonderfully to our classroom setting.

In preparation to the Holiday of Rosh Hashanah we have many works out in our classroom that are connected to our theme – apples.

During our outdoor color hunt the children enjoyed finding and sorting the colors we’ve been learning – red, yellow and green.

At circle time we told the story of “The Star in the Apple.” A mom challenges her son to find a little red house with no windows or doors and a start on the inside. After much searching he realizes it is an apple. We did this experiment in class and the children were amazed to see that when an apple is cut horizontally a star appears.

In our classroom we have a program called D.E.A.R – Drop Everything and Read. We will be discussing, in depth, many books that are connected to our themes.

We are reading “The Giving Tree” by: Shel Silverstein. We have talked about the author, where he was born and some interesting facts about him and looked at pictures of him. The students use matching and sequencing cards to help them become more familiar with the story. We encourage you to borrow this book from the library. The children are excited to read this book each day as they become more familiar with it.

Children love preparing food. Our students have been setting up snack on their own, putting out their placemats, counting out their food, and pouring their own water. Activities like pouring build dexterity and concentration. Of course, satisfaction and fostering independence empower the child and are added benefits. Encourage these activities at home.

We have several events coming up in the month of September to share with you.

  • September 2nd – Chai Café
  • September 14-Welcome BBQ from 5:00-6:30.
  • September 22nd - Picture Day
  • September 22nd- Open House from 8:00-9:30. Montessori informational evening and tour of the Montessori classroom.

Enjoy your long weekend with your family. See you all on Tuesday. Shabbat Shalom!
