Message from the Director

 

Welcome back! I hope that you all enjoyed a happy and fun holiday break with your families. We are so happy to be back in class! The children have already gotten into the routine and are hard at work. It is really an exciting time with several emerging readers!

 

 

 

Preschool News

 

This week, we will begin a month-long unit on nutrition and anatomy. We will read the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl and talk about healthy food choices. The children have been discussing the food pyramid and are enjoying the new classification, labeling and categorizing works. We are also using their lunches to discuss the food groups. As we have been focusing on what makes our body healthy, please do not send candy to school and send only one treat in your child’s lunch. We will also learn about how nutrients in food help different parts of our bodies.

We began our art curriculum with the first artist - Jackson Pollack. Children are being introduced to primary and secondary colors, and will continue to experiment on their own through color mixing. They have enjoyed the spin art and the other new works at the art center.

Alef-Bet

The children are working on their Alef-Bet Sensorial Book, which will be completed and taken home at the end of the year. This week began our Alef-Bet curriculum by learning the letter ALEF. We learned two important words that begin with Alef - Ima (Mom) and Abba (Dad).

Parsha

This weeks Torah portion talks about the story of Noah and the flood. The children enjoy hearing the story and will be bringing home a craft at the end of the week.
