Language
Language is more than reading and writing. It is at the heart of communication, interpersonal interaction, self-expression, and more. Chai Tots students are exposed to English and Hebrew, in both spoken and written form.
During the sensitive ages of 2-3, it is believed that a child’s vocabulary will increase from approximately 300 words to 1,000 words. Through songs and stories, as well as Practical Life and Sensorial experiences, Chai Tots Toddler students are introduced to new vocabulary words and sentence patterns on a daily basis. Like all Chai Tots classes, our Toddler class has a reading corner filled with books for children to explore.
In the Preschool class, the children are introduced to the English and Hebrew alphabets and learn to read using the phonetic Montessori method which we have adapted to include Hebrew language Montessori works from Jewish Montessori. Some of our innovative language materials include a set of English and Hebrew “Chinese medicine drawers” where each drawer is labeled with a letter and is filled with words and objects beginning with that letter. The children match the object with the word, and then spell the words out using moveable alphabets and later write them down themselves.
The children learn to identify nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc… through innovative and fun Montessori language materials. As early as 4 years old they begin writing and illustrating their own creative writing books which they proudly share with their classmates and family.
