Math
The Montessori approach to math introduces children to concrete hands-on materials that represent the various abstract math concepts that the children will use in their later schooling and life.
For the younger children, the Math curriculum is closely linked to the Sensorial curriculum. Math activities include matching, sorting, and developing vocabulary, such as “more” versus “less”, which will help the children as their skills develop.
For the older children, there is a strong focus on math and the children combine abstract math activities, such as solving equations on paper, with the use of the concrete Montessori math materials. Additionally, the children begin to learn basic geometry, and the rules of the base-10 and decimal system.
