Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy and exciting month in the Montessori room!  One month is not such a long time when it comes to preparing for Passover. The children have enjoyed hearing the story of the exodus from Egypt and, of course, know all about the plagues. We have discussed the Pesach Seder and the special and unique foods that go along with it. We have been practicing the 4 questions in Hebrew and always enjoy singing “Dayainu”. In art the children have been hard at work on their Hagaddas. Each age group has a wonderful age-appropriate Hagadda on which they have been working. The culmination of all our learning and art will come together at our model Seder which will take place Monday, April 7, at 10:00a.m. You are invited to join us. The children had a hands-on Pesach experience at our “Passover Museum.” They enjoyed traveling back in time through the 10 plagues and on into the Promised Land of Israel.

The Pesach theme has been brought into other areas of the class. In science we have begun our unit on amphibians to coincide with Pesach.  We have been discussing how to classify amphibians and talking about their habitats.  We have some new work on the science shelf that presents the life-cycle of a frog.  The students also have been working on “Parts of a Frog” booklet.  We are anxiously awaiting our tadpoles to arrive so we can watch the life-cycle in person!

In geography we discussed Egypt and the pyramids.

Besides for Pesach, we also focused on learning about our community.  We began the unit by discussing our families and then began to discuss who lives and works in our community.  We invited parents and friends of Chai Tots to discuss their careers with the students to provide a broad perspective of how people contribute to a community.  We are so grateful to everyone who gave their time.  The children really enjoyed learning about how their interests can turn into a career in the future.  We definitely have some budding doctors, carpenters, engineers, and maybe even a rabbi or two!

We are having a family bowling afternoon Sunday, April 12 at 1:30pm, at Mason Bowl. (For more info check out www.JDiscovery.com.) We hope you can join us!

Wishing you a wonderful Passover and a restful spring break. We look forward to seeing everyone Monday, April 19.
