Dear Parents,

Who could believe it is already Shavuot. The kids have been counting the 49 days from Passover to Shavuot (The giving of the Torah on Mt Sinai). We told the story about when the mountains heard that G‑d was giving the Torah on a mountain, they began arguing. Each mountain claimed to be the best. Only Mt Sinai stood quietly and humbly on the side. Because he was not haughty he was chosen for this special honor.

In honor of this holiday the artist we are discussing is Georgia O’Keeffe.

We are almost finished with all our Alef Bet letters. Our sensorial books are looking great and we can not wait to bring them home. We have also been busy preparing for our graduation on June 7th.

Our class theme this month is farms and how they impact our lives.  We have discussed all the different types of farms including: dairy, animal, vegetable, and fruit farms.  As part of our botany unit, we learned about how vegetables are planted and harvested.  We have also been discussing and classifying animals that work on the farm.

In our science area we have been learning about mammals and the characteristics they have in common. Our experiments this month are dealing with air pressure, and learning how air takes up space.

Our field trip to Niederman’s Farm was so much fun for students, parents and the teachers!  Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to drive and chaperone.

Our Art show was a great success thanks to all the families who participated.  The children were very pleased to share their beautiful art work with their loved ones.
