Dear Parents,

We hope you all enjoyed spending family time over the break.  We are so happy to be back in class!  The children have already gotten into the routine and are hard at work.  It is really an exciting time with several emerging readers!

This month we have been focusing on the Human Body and Nutrition.  The children have been discussing the food pyramid and are enjoying the new classification, labeling and categorizing works.  We are also using their lunches to discuss the food groups. As we have been focusing on what makes our body healthy, please do not send candy to school and only send one treat in your child’s lunch.

The children have also been discussing the major organs and how they function.  Each child has been working on a book of the human body and they will be bringing it home soon. The Body Mechanics Workshop came on Friday. Using puppets and interactive songs the students helped Miss Jane find Mr. Nobodies missing heart. Click here to see pictures of the workshop.

We are continuing our Hebrew letters, and are enjoying the sensorial art. The Torah portion this week talks about the story of Noah and the flood. The children have enjoyed hearing about it.

Next month we will be learning about the seasons and weather we encourage you to discuss this at home.

A letter detailing winter school policies and procedures will follow. Please be sure to read it.

Our art theme this month is “Painting with Scissors”. We will be exploring the artist Matisse. He was a French painter known for his bright and vivid colors. In his later years he became sick and could no longer paint, thus he began to cut out both organic and inorganic shapes and would collage them onto canvases. This unit will focus on these colorful cut out shapes.
