P.O.P.S. (PARENTS OF PRESCHOOLERS)
KICKS OFF SCHOOL YEAR
The Jewish Discovery Center is launching P.O.P.S. (Parents of Preschoolers), open to parents of preschool-aged children, announced Rochel Kalmanson, Program Director for The Jewish Discovery Center. The stated goal of P.O.P.S. is to bring together parents of children 1 – 5 years old for family and adult activities, creating unity within the Jewish community.
“It is an opportunity for parents to come together and get to know each other better, while having fun,” said P.O.P.S. Chairperson Laura Rossey, a former public school teacher and current parent of two preschoolers at Chai Tots Early Childhood Center. “One of the things I love about Chai Tots is that it is not only fun for our children, but for our family too. We are excited to launch this expanded venture for parents in the entire community.”
P.O.P.S. will kick-off this year’s events in the Sukkah. Families with at least one preschooler are invited to “Sweets in the Sukkah: A Family Dessert Night,” on October 11, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Mason-area community Sukkah.
Upcoming monthly events being planned include: “Parents Night Out” in November, “Chanukah Family Game Night” in December; “Mad Potter for Moms Only” in January; “Shabbat Family Dinner” in February; “Game Night” in March; “Picnic @ The Park” in May; and an “Ice Cream Social” in June. A plethora of additional programming will include lectures, drop-off babysitting and services geared to parents of preschoolers.
Membership is free and open to the entire Jewish community regardless of affiliation or where ones preschooler is enrolled. “We encourage parents to become members, and provide input and ideas on additional offerings and services to make family life easier and fun,” said Rossey.
